Kim’s time of 3 minutes and 42.71 seconds, his personal best, came just short of Park’s 2011 record of 3 minutes of 42.04 seconds.
The 20-year-old is the second Korean swimmer to win the discipline at the World Aquatics Championships after Park Tae-hwan in 2011.
